QOD Subject lines

  • I've noticed a lot of different subject lines in this forum and I mean the date ones not the ones that really don't belong. For example:

    03/12

    12/03

    Dec 3

    3 Dec

What say we all pick one style and stick to it? It MIGHT keep us from having multiple posts for one day.

I suggest the day month format of 3 Dec. It's less confusing than 03/12 - is that 3 Dec or 12 Mar?

Also for anyone reading this who isn't already aware - this forum (Question of the Day (QOD)) is for comments on the Question of the Day. The QOD is in the SQL Server Central e-newsletter and on the website at Resources>Question of the Day.

  • Well, as the majority of members here seem to come from the US, I'd suggest using the american date formatting convention.

  • I agree with the american version. 12/04 for today.

  • I was proposing the spelled-out version of the month since we have people from many different countries posting here. If the spelled-out version of the month is used there isn't an ambiguity to the reader. Using 12/04 is okay, but a reader who doesn't know differently might think that is 12 April. But 4 Dec or Dec 4 most likely won't be misunderstood.

Remember, some people are joining SQLServerCentral late and looking through old posts for the first time.

  • I guess the only to enforce this, is to automatically create a thread when the first newsletter is delivered. And even then you should factor in the 'human factor' that a member isn't aware of this and creates a second one.

  • Good points. I think we'll look at moving to auto generating the topic like we do for articles. We're catching up on tasks a little, might be doable soon.
