  • Hmm, I know how much work would be done on our production database if I turned on "read only". I think I would still get a lot more throughput if I turned auto_shrink on than if I turned it into a read only database.

    I don't know about other people's production databases, but our's NEVER shrink in size, especially leaving > 25% of the file unused causing the auto shrink to kick in.

    Then again, maybe I'm just sore at getting this one wrong - I'm sure the database performance wouldn't suffer if it was read only!! ;o)

    Yeah, but when you're not watching and they do you'll have all the fun of your production base slowing to a crawl
