OVERVIEW: The SQL Server Database Consultant (DBA) will, as part of our Pythian Consulting Team, supply complete support for all aspects of database and application infrastructure to a variety of clients, as assigned.
This includes database design and architecture, data modeling, planning of deployment, deployment/test, transition to production environment, performance and health monitoring, performance, security and DR audits and reviews.
You will also get to solve the most challenging problems escalated from the regular DBC teams.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Provide support to external clients on all aspects of SQL Server Database Management, including but not limited to:
• Recommendation of best practices for improvements to current operational processes and procedures
• Restoration and recovery of corrupted databases
• Database server configuration and maintenance
• Support of Database services
• Administration of backup procedures and disaster recovery plans
• Troubleshooting of operational problems, including performance
• Responding to monitoring alerts
• Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover
• Coordinating, analyzing, designing, implementing and administrating IT solutions
• Configuring and maintaining database servers
• Administrating backup procedures and disaster recovery plans
• Provide 24x7on-call support and participate in applicable on-call rotation
• Periodic overtime and weekend work
• Troubleshooting of operational problems, including performance
• Other duties as assigned by the SDM/Team Lead
QUALIFICATIONS: Highly experienced in Database design and Administration performing the following:
• Expert knowledge of all versions of SQL Server
• Design and implementation of Highly Availability Architectures
• Design and implementation of Disaster Recovery strategies
• Data modeling
• Performance Tuning
• Coding Scripts, Procedures, functions, etc.
• Installations, configurations, and upgrading of databases
• Develop methods for monitoring
• Minimum 8 years of experience in Database Administration, and expertise in all of the following:
Installing, configuring and upgrading SQL Server databases
SQL Server Administration
SQL Server client tools
Performance tuning of SQL Server databases
SQL Server technical support
Designing and implementing various SQL Server backup/recovery strategies
SQL Server DR strategies (database mirroring, log shipping, etc.)
SQL Server Replication
SQL Server Clustering
Coding scripts, procedures, functions, etc.
Developing methods for monitoring
SQL Server tools (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
• Experience with Virtualization
• Knowledge of server hardware
• Experience interfacing with external customers
• Good Project Management, time management, scheduling and coordination skills
• White paper writing, blogging and presenting a plus
• The successful candidate will have proper authorization to work and travel in the US
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS: (Any of the following)
• Oracle Experience
• MySQL experience
• NoSQL Experience (Any flavor)
• BI Experience
• Sharepoint
• Expertise with all Microsoft operating systems, other major Operating Systems is a plus
• Experience with other database platforms a plus
• Experience with major operating systems is a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Frequent, short notice, travel on a regular basis
• Participate in on-call rotation and periodic overtime
• Ability to perform primary job functions while standing or sitting for extended periods of time
• Dexterity of hands and fingers (or skill with adaptive devices) to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computing equipment
• The incumbent must spend long hours in intense concentration
• Stress may be caused by the need to complete tasks within tight deadlines
EDUCATION: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology other related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience.

If that's the case, why isn't Oracle listed as a required qualification?
Or do you mean they're asking for a SQL Server expert to "turn" him/her into an Oracle expert? :doze:
