We have many clusters and from time to time (hotfixes, service packs, etc) we have to reboot nodes.
What is the proper method to rebooting a node?
I use cluster admin to failover the sql services, then click Start->Shutdown->Reboot but about half the time the node hangs and one of our IT guys will have to reboot it again. RDP doesn't work during this time even if I try to connect to the console.
So how should we reboot a node?

Well, you are following the method as it should be.
But why does the node hang, did you check the error logs, did you try to DROP and re-add the node. see if this solves your issue.
Is this a A/A OR A/P CLUSTER.

if you reboot a node it will automaticaly fail the instance over to the other cluster node, etc

Thanks for the replies.
In this case it is several 4 node clusters (and all nodes are active).
I prefer to failover myself as I can control where the instances go. We have them configured for which node to prefer, but it only takes a few seconds to do it myself.

I haven't done Active/Active clusters but I have done 2 node Active/Passive with no problems. Reboot passive node, failover when done, reboot other node.
At what point does the node hang? When shutting down or when starting up?
