  1) I have a SQL 2005 server running in VMWare and the CPU keeps jumping to 100% for a minute or more, and different applications keep timing out. I'm trying to troubleshoot what's going on. When I run a trace, I select the CPU boxes, but I never see a corresponding jump in the trace CPU numbers to match what I see in task manager. What should I be looking for ?

  2) I have a trace I run on my 2000 server that I want to run on my 2005 server. I tried various scripting & importing steps, but can't actually import it into 2005 to be able to run it.

  For 1- grab process explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) and see what process is eating CPU, and see if it is SQL server is creating the spikes.
