Processor affinity advice

  • Hi all,

My users server is running SQL 2005 Standard with a quad core processor and also 26 GB RAM

SQL has 22GB RAM assigned to it.

the database they are accessing is 14GB and is financial.

When they create a certain report on the system , the system hangs , standrad in app report , no other sites have issues , same software.

The SQL server grabs about 150MB RAM , which im happy with , and then spikes the processor to 25% (I guess while it calculates the values in the report)

This is really slllllooooowwwww though , and i am thinking about looking at processor affinity to cure it , but need some advice.

Whats the ramifications , are there , if any , 'best' settings?

this also , i should add is a dedicated SQ: box.

    Thanks

  • If it's a dedicated SQL box, leave the processor affinity at the default settings. 25% cpu usage is on the low side. 70%+ sustained and I might start to worry.

Sounds like that report needs tuning.
