When processing a all shared dimensions I receive the following error message and was wondering if anyone can steer me in the most likely direction to look for the problem...
Data source provider error: Cannot save object inside a Decision Support Objects (DSO) transaction.; Time:08/17/2002 2:40:11 PM

I ran into the same problem, sometimes it is due to the fact that Service Pack 2 has been applied to SQL Server but not to Analysis Server, or the opposite. Try to apply SP2 to both of them.
Also, it is sometimes a permission problem, I noticed that it particularly happens when you have NT/W2K/XP Professional on the workstations, the server gets confused authenticating the user (local versus domain accounts). My only advice here is to check that no local accounts are created.

Thank you! I reapplied SP2 to both the SQL Server and Analysis Services...this seemed to solve the problem.
