Problem with Surface Area Configuration

  • I have a peculiar case as follows:

    1. Windows 2003 server 64bit with SP1

    2. SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2 applied. Default Instance.

    3. SQL and related services are set to Automatic and log on as a User with administrative privilage.

    Now the issue I narrate:

SQL 2005 and its related services are running fine.(SQL Server,Agent,Integration Serivces, Browser). But When I open the

SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration and click on any option

    a) Surface Area configuration for services and connections.

    b) Surface area configuration for Features.

it throws an error " To configure the Surface Area, one or more services for the Database Engine or Analysis Services or Reporting Services must be running. (SQLSAC)."

Can any body help me on this. And also one more as follows:

When I open the SQL Server Configuration Manager it only displays the Integration Services not other services. Where as the SQL Server 2005 is running users are able to connect to the instance.

  • Can you reinstall the SQLSERVER 2005 in the Same Environment,it may be some installation issues.
