Problem with Securing the Reports

  • Hi

Recently we have installed SSRS on one of production server and this server is exclusively for DBA's Adminstration that keeps track of all the other SQL Server in our Environment, so for generatin reports we have installed SSRS. We want to restrict the users to view the report Manager without entering their domain Id and password, I was partially successfully in doing this. I went on the server and on the server I had changed some settings in IE that enabled the window asking for the credentials to access http://localhost/reports site locally from the server.

But when I'm trying to access the site http://servername/reports from my laptop its not prompting me enter the credentials instead its taking me directly to the report manager website. In order to prompt for credentials what needs to be done to get this? can anyone suggest me please what needs to be done at this point of time.

    Thanks,

    Ravi.

  • Looking at the Report Manager there is a tab for properties, and in there is a tab for security. If you are defined as a member of one of the pre-existing roles, you should get right in. The best way to configure security is not challenge your users to log in, but to add their names to the appropriate group in AD then put that AD group in one of the pre-existing roles on the report server.

  • Agreed, though when you enter your credentials on that laptop are you still able to login? If not you might need to register additional names ("endpoints") on the report server, if you're accessing it by IP or with a different FQDN, etc.
