I feel reasonably stupid but in my defense, I did clearly state that I am a 2005 novice ...
I am, however, certain that I will always remember that the check mark means 'parse' and not 'execute'.

This whole exercise came about because I wanted to do a COPY_ONLY backup.
It occured to me that it must have way too much work for Microsoft to add a check box to the GUI screen to allow this option to be specified.
