I am trying to add a user on a small network to connect and login to a SQL server on the server host. I am using SQL native client on the client - In stting up th OBDC data source for Native client I get error messages :
Connection failed
SQL state 08001
SQL server error 10060
then
Connection failed
SQL state HYT00
SQL server error 0
Then
SQL state 08001
SQL server error 10060
Can anyone understand the failure to connect and login?
I have set the protocols to TCP
I would appreciate help

Have you successfully setup other machines in the past?
Are you trying to use Windows Authentication or SQL Authentication?

What OS is on the client? Is there a firewall enabled?
Can you ping the SQL server by name and IP address?
Can you use SQLPing to see the SQL server from the client?
