problem with installing mssql - dot net framework

  • Hello!

I tried to install MS SQL server express 2008. I run SQLEXPR32_x86_ENU.exe and see: "SQL Server 2008 Setup requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 to be installd. Download and install .NET Framework from http://www.microsoft.com/net/ and then return Setup".

I downloaded dotnetfx.exe - that is .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and installed it. I try once more to run mssql setup but there is the same problem.

Just after this information "SQL Server 2008 Setup requires..." there is other one "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 installation has failed. SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 to be installed".

    Greetings!

  • SQL Server 2008 requires .NET 3.5 at RTM so now I would think you need .NET 3.5 SP1 which is very big, check the link below to install the .NET 3.5.

  • Why do you say it is big file - it has about 3MB (that file to which you gave me link).

I had previously installed from the file dotNetFx35setup.exe dot net 3.5 but because of shown above error I uninstalled it and installed only 2.0. It didn't help.

  • It is not 3megs it is about 54megs for standlone PC install. If that did not fix it maybe it is not related to the .NET framework.

  • don't know if it helps, but when i went to install SQL 2008, I had to upgrade my existing Visual Studio 2008 to SP1 before it would allow itself to be installed; that made sure the 3.5 framework was also at the highest version as well
