I am in the process of upgrading a SQL Server 2008 SP3 installation to SQL Server 2008 R2 on a virtual server(VMWare). After I started the upgrade, I recieved the following error message:
The following error has occurred:The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2337.
I have researched this error, and everything I have found says it is a problem with uncompressing the .iso image. I have used this image to upgrade other SQL Server installations, as well as to do clean installs on new servers. Are there any other issues which would cause this error?

Have you looked at the install logs if there is anything interesting there?

The installation media I am using is a .iso image. This can be attached to the CD drive of a virtual server and be used and accessed like a physical CD. I have never used an compression software on these and I have used this to do installs and upgrades on other servers.

Did you have any luck looking elsewhere online? I haven't experienced it, but I was hoping the bootstrap/error logs will help.
So far it sounds.
- You have installed new SQL 2008 R2 using same ISO no problems?
- You have upgraded SQL 2008 Sp3 on another server to SQL 2008 R2?
Have you upgraded same OS, Same SQL with service pack on VM Ware?
