I have an NT4 Server (SP6a) GSX Image on which I have installed SQL Server 7. When I try to install SQL 7 Service Pack 4 on here it hangs and freezes the server (typically at the validating user stage). Has anyone had this problem? We have done the same on a Windows 2000 Server Image and it is fine and it is also fine on an NT4 physical server so I am assuming that the problem is the combination of NT4 and GSX.

One of developers I support did have this problem: SP 3A install on SSQL Server 2000 on Windows 2003 server hanging on "Validating User" stage.
This machine had other Windows problems and had to be re-imaged

Thanks, that is interesting. The image here has been rebuilt 3 times so our Systems Admin team don't think it is a problem with the image itself (I'm not so sure though).

Graham,
The problem may be not with the image but what was installed on the image after. The server I mentioned was built (installed) not from the Image SW. I will try to talk to the sysadmin of that machine to check if he remembers what was the OS issue with the machine.
