Problem installing SP 3.0A

  • I'm new to SQL, but need it for web.

I've installed SQL 2000 Developer Edition (The only one I have license for) with SP2 on a Windows 2003 Standard Server.

When I try to upgrade the SQL server with SP 3.0A it stops during file copy, with the following message: http://www.huskekage.dk/screen.jpg

I've tried installing it with and without the SA password enabled, no difference. I would still beleive it to be a permit problem, but I am using administrator account and there should be no restrictions to the folder.

Can anyone help me out here?

Please do ask for more information if needed.

  • You have stopped the sql server services haven't you?

Use the service manager to check.

  • Since the SQL server is installed under windows 2003 server, the services can't start untill SP 3 has been installed. Therefore that is not a problem, nor is it the solution

  • The file you are showing is a Windows system file that can be used by applications and Windows.  If you look I think you will also find a copy of it under the WINNT folder or subfolder.  You may have another application pointed to and using the file in the SQL binn folder, which will cause this problem.  Try this.  Stop all SQL Services to include Agent.  Using Task Manger, shutdown all processes not necessary to run the OS.  Then try re-installng SP3A for SQL2000.
