Hi every body,
I just create a Maintenence Cleanup Task and connect to the Maintenence Plan backup.The backup was creating successfully but the deleting of 1 day old files was not getting done.
I gave the start time as 12:00:00 Am to 11:59:59 PM yesterday itself(it means to run for 24 hours).But its not deleting the back up file which was created on yesterday 12:00:14 pm.

Actually usin Maintenance plan Wizard you separately schedule multiple maintenance task.
While creating the maintenance cleanup task did you give the folder path and file extensions properly.
Did you set on success precedence constraint

I am not using the Minatenence plan whizard. I just create a new MP by right click the Maintenance tab and selecting New Maintenence plan tab.
Tell me exactly what "Did you set on success precedence constraint" this mean?

That is the connection between the two jobs in your maintenance plan .
On success/failure/completion of the first job the work flows to the next job.

Hi Venu,
Two reasons your backups might not be deleting ...
1) you are running SQL Server 2005 version which had a glitch in the "Maintenance Cleanup" task.
2) Your backup time is set to 24 hours, so if the files were even 1 second too late they will not delete. Meaning...
Lets say your backup starts at 12:00AM and Finishes at 12:15AM.
Your delete starts then it will look for all files starting at 12:15:01AM yesterday. If the the file was finished creating at 12:15:00AM it will not delete... because it's 1 second short of reaching 24 hours. I usually set my hours delay to 20 hours to delete.
