Hi guys 🙂
I have been attempting to connect to SQLEXPRESS (2005) from Management Studio Express.
When I click on the connect button in the Connect to server dialog box I get an error as follows:
-------------------------------------
Cannot connect to HARVEYNORMAN-PC\SQLEXPRESS.
Additional Information:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server)
--------------------------------------
I tried Config Manager, but the only details showing under services are as follows:
=============================
SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ)
SQL Server Reporting Services (SQLEXPRESS)
SQL Server Browser
=============================
I tried sqlcmd to check for instances (I think i used select @@server), but the window closed after a couple of seconds).
I am running on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit with all of the available Service Packs.
So, I am a bit mystified I must admit.
If somebody could help me, I would really appreciate it.
Kind regards
Ross
