Lester on my machine, my 8.0 list of names are in the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Client\SuperSocketNetLib\LastConnect
i don't know where the passwords are, but you could at least keep the list of servers...maybe someone else knows what other keys to export.

Thanks for the reply lowell. In another case of my officemate (he uses the same machine but different profile) the SQL groups are there in the EM but when he colapse to list the registered sql there are no items inside.

ok i think the per user settings are here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Client\PrefServers
for a user that is not logged in, i found a different set of servers here:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-515967899-1220945662-839522115-500\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Client\PrefServers
his specific SID only connected to two of the servers that are available, whereas my Adminstrator login has about a dozern.
