you can use Windows 2003 EE also.
2 nics are also required. 1 for heartbeat, one for local network.
the heartbeat must be on the same subnet.....

hardware should be compatible too - microsoft have a catalogue for compatible hardware.

Microsoft no longer maintain a catalogue for Windows 2008
Windows Server 2008 Cluster solutions will not be listed in the Windows Server Catalog.
These are the only requirements for support.
• hardware and software components must meet the qualifications to receive a “Certified for Windows Server 2008” logo.
• The fully configured solution must pass the Validate test in the Failover Clusters Management snap-in.
