Hi
the title says it really. It's time to learn powershell and the run up to christmas has begun so..
Anyone got any Powershell book recommendations - for SQL DBAs rather than windows admins although cross over is fine (learning two things at the same time is good).
I guess while I'm at it any good SQL Server books in general - for experienced DBA's and as this is an open forum for other levels too.
And to get it started I would recommend:
Ken Henderson's Sql Server 2005 Practical Troubleshooting
This is more for experienced dbas
Thanks

I've just bought SQL Server 2008 Administration with Windows Powershell (ISBN 9780470477281).
I'm only on page 60 of 500+ so far, so I can't give a full review.
What I will say is that it doesn't assume you already know Powershell. I haven't come across anything with a SQL Server perspective yet... it seems there is nothing SQL Server specific until half way through the book.
So, from that perspective it would seem a good book to teach yourself Powershell, plus you do get a SQL Server slant later on.
Edit. Correct typo

Thanks Ian - that might be just the sort of thing I am after.
If I start using powershell it might be useful to replace some of my old scripts I use to get disk sizes etc from servers. So the windows admin might be more useful than I thought at first.

Which is exactly why I bought that particular book, so I don't think you will be wasting your money if you buy it.
Unfortunately, our servers are still on Windows 2003, so first of all I have to convince the admins to install Powershell.:-)
