Poor Restore Performance

  • I've got a server we use for conversions.

24 Core (AMD) system 32 GB of Ram. Mirrored C:\ drive and an attached SAN drive using an XIO Emprise SAN.

I have a 2 GB database backup I'm trying to restore, the backup is on the root of C:

When I restore the database to the C: drive it takes about 1 minute to restore, when I restore to the XIO San it's taking between 6 and 8 minutes. I'm seeing horrible performance metrics from SQLIO with regard to the SAN drive.

I've looked at Disk alignment, cache settings on the SAN, HBA Queeu depth, wait states, and several other things I've likely forgotten by now.

Any other ideas on what I can check to troubleshoot what seems to be a SAN issue?
