Please see the following CONNECT item by Erland Sommarskog.
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback/Details/258733
Also notice that the item is still listed as ACTIVE and, in 3 months, the suggestion will be 8 years old and Microsoft still hasn't seen fit to boost the priority on this.
Please lend a helping hand here. If you use a Tally or Numbers table, take a minute out to vote this one up. If you don't know what a Tally or Numbers table actually is, please do yourself a favor and learn how to use it. It'll change your life. See the following article for what it is and how it can be used as a very high speed replacement for certain types of loops and then vote it up. I'd personally love to see this one top the charts for vote ups.

I decided to down vote this one. Everybody should just go to Oracle where they already have the functionality. (devil)

I think you're going to get some votes on this one, Jeff. Hey, it's coming up on its 8-year anniversary in February and it has the support of more than one MVP. You can't expect Microsoft to act too quickly on something like this. π

BWAAAA-HAAAAA-HAAAA!!!! I thought you were kidding... Note about the vote but about Oracle... you recommended a "DUAL" table??? :-D:-P:hehe: I sure do hope they don't take that part of the suggestion.

I'm sure there's a table valued function in a RDBMS, but I can't remember which one is it or how is it called. It was mentioned once in a forum post. It wasn't Oracle and certainly wasn't the dual table.

Just an example that the big red machine has had it for some time and despite being a single value table, they have some very fast "numbers" tables that are built from it.
That said, they really don't need a DUAL table. A tally table is appropriate.
