Performance Tuning a SQL Server Database in Amazon RDS

    Hi Team,

    Thanks in advance for simplifying the the people tasks by your valuable suggestions.

    I am being assigned a new task where in I have to analyze a SQL Server DB in Amazon RDS. I am struck with below issues.

    1. How to performance tune the Database. Can I just a take a backup and then restore it on a stand-alone SQL Server Instance and check with queries to address issues(Missing Indexes, Unused Indexes, Slow running queries and so on ......)
    2. The other option I think is to go through the Performance Insights in Amazon RDS. If so, I see that there are limitations with respect to OS metrics and many others.
    3. I see that system stored procedures in Stand alone SQL Server differs from Amazon RDS SQL Server DB system stored procedures with 'rds' as prefix.

    If anyone is aware of performance tuning the SQL Server DB on Amazon RDS, Please could you share your scripts and suggestions on how I can proceed to accomplish task.

    I have to ask... were the databases previously on-premise?  If so, did they "work fine"?
