HI. I'm not sure where to post this question so I hope I'm not out of line in this group. I'm reading a 4 part article on sql server performance trend analysis and I see how I set up a log file in performance monitor. I did that and let it run for a while and then stopped it. Now I want to view it. The article said you can view the log file quick and dirty with the chart view in performance monitor. Can someone tell me how to do this? I've tried to at least see the log file I created but I cannot find it. I know I'm doing something real silly but I just don't know what it is.

I think you want to look for a file that has an extention of blg, csv or tsv. Open this file in PERFMON by clicking on the icon that looks like a disk ("View Log Data file"). Then Click on the "+" icon to add the counters you want to view. A nice little graph should then show up.
I think this is what you are asking about.

I don't see anyfiles with extensions like blg, csv or tsv. When I stop the log file from gathering data, I still only have a file with a .log extension. and in windows NT there is no option called VIEW LOG DATA. I just looked at a 2000 desktop and I see that option there. So I'm not sure if I can view the actual .log file in windows NT. Each time I click on the DISK icon in NT, it wants to bring up the log settings file for me to ADD OR DELETE objects from it and start the running of the log again and that is not what i want.

Problem solved.. After clicking around till I was dizzy, I figured it out. I had to go to the CHART view and then go to OPTIONS and click on DATA FROM... this is where I could choose the .log file that had just been created. From there I went to EDIT and chose the particular COUNTERS I wanted from the OJBECTS that were being logged.
Thanks again!!
