Hi,
I'm trying to set-up some performance monitor logging on a new SQL 2008 R2 cluster, but am having some issue when it comes to remotely trying to view the performance counters.
The set-up is:
Machine A in Cluster - Running DB Instance that I want to monitor
Machine B in Cluster - Running performance monitor on.
Both machines are running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1.
If I view the counters on Machine A, it works perfectly, but when I try running it from Machine B I get nothing.
The strange thing is, when I try to view the counters from a Windows 2003 server (32 bit), I can view the counters?
If anyone can give me any pointers, I would be very grateful.
Thank you
Dave

I assume the cluster is failover with a passive node?
In which case I'd probably expect that to happen as the other node is not intended to be used - think licenses here and so on.
If all nodes were active I'd expect the perfmon to work.

It is indeed a passive/active node system.
It's just strange that when I try to use Perfmon to view the active node's counters I get nothing.

if you're trying to use the passive node then that's what I'd expect.
However I just checked on a w2k8 cluster and I can happily run perfmon from the passive node against the active node. Are you choosing the active node in computer to monitor name?

I believe so, but I will double check (I could be having a moment!)

*slightly embarrassed* - It seems to be working now.. I have a feeling it might have been how I was setting up the counters. I’ll keep it running for a while to make sure it’s ok.
But, thank you for taking a look and double checking 🙂

Just wanted to keep posted. We faced this issue, because of the datakeeper software that we are using for Active/Passive Replication and it seems like it is a known issue.

It should work as long as you select the active server name as Colin mentioned.
Thank You,
