Performance Best Practices

  • I'm trying to develop some programmer best practices when it comes to writing TSQL code for SQL Server 2005. I'm looking for some white papers that might help. Here is one I found, still valid, although it is written for SQL Server 2000 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998577.aspx). Do you have any suggested reading on Best Practices?

  • In the upper right hand corner of this page is a box labeled SEARCH enter the words "Best practices" click on go.. in the resulting window select "Articles" there you will note that there are 19 pages, 10 items per page making about 190 articles written by some of the best experts contributing to SQL Server Central that discuss best practices for just about any aspect of SQL Server.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

  • Read the articles by Jeff Moden. He covers some great basics you might want to avoid.

  • I did search. The problem is you get a little bit here, and a little bit there. Which is not to say that's a bad thing. I'm hoping to spend more time reading and less time wading through the tons of stuff on the web with a single or double set of tips. So I was kind of hoping to asked someones opinion for some good articles that covered a broad spectrum of tips not the ones and or tool pearls of wisedom. Yes you are right I could have used the search, but sometimes I would just like to ask what others people like for tips. Because as we know not all tips carry the same weight and value.

  • Heather then like Steve Jones' recommendation

. Limit your reading to Jeff's work ... it is a gold mine of GOOD information.

  • Ok, I read the article, and so now I'm searching for the "how can I delete My Account from SQL Server Central Database". I got 10 hits none of which helped me find out how to remove my account from SQL Server Central. Time to consider sending replies from this site to the real bitbucket.
