We are running SQL 2012 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard OS. We have a vended database that needs troubleshooting, so the vendor consultant shot me over a PAL created XML template to load into Perfmon. When I try to create a new Data Collector Set based on this template, though, I get blank. I can't click on the Next or Finish buttons at all.
Now, FYI, we do not have PAL installed on this server. I mentioned this to the vendor but he doesn't seem to think this is a problem. He sent me a SQL 2008 R2 template to try and it didn't work either. He sent me back the SQL 2012 template and told me to try again. I did, got the same thing. Then I tried clicking the back button, then clicked Next and then Finish (because it then became available) and got this:
I tried setting the Description to blank per this link (https://chentiangemalc.wordpress.com/2015/06/19/performance-analysis-tool-pal-perfmon-templates-dont-load-in-win10/). Still no dice. I can't load the template.
Any thoughts?
FYI: We aren't giving the vendor consultant direct access to our server because it has other databases on it and we're trying to keep it secure. So we have to be able to run this for him but seem unable to.

I found this: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/rmilne/2012/07/19/using-a-pal-template-to-easily-capture-performance-data/
I have worked with PAL a few years ago but not with a template. Have thought about looking at it again but haven't had the time.

Yeah, I found that post too. But if you look at his previous post (he links to it up top), it's a post about how to install PAL.
Which makes me think PAL needs to be installed to use someone else's PAL template. I couldn't find a single post via Google on how to use a PAL template without having PAL installed. Perhaps my Google-Fu is bad. Perhaps no one has ever thought to question it. The vendor, in the meantime, has sent me a non-PAL perfmon template which I can actually read into the Data Collector Set.
So YAY, finally getting some monitoring done.

Glad to hear they sent something you could use.
