All--
I had installed two instances of MSDE on my laptop via the .NET Framework SDK 1.0 installation routines. I was able to patch the default instance using the version of SP3 that I downloaded from MS's website. However, the instance that has a name in the form <machine name>\VSdotNET cannot be patched using the same software. I researched this, and found a Knowledge Base article which addresses this special case. A link to a patch for named instances of MSDE created by .NET 1.0 is included. I downloaded this second patch and tried to apply it, with no success. Anybody else run into the same problem? If so, were you able to discover a workaround?
Thank you very much,
Sincerely,
Matthew P. Seltzer

Is your instance installed in the default path? /mssql$instance/binn? We had issues with the installer.
we also found that the original install path needs to be there.

Hello, Steve,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I will take a look and get back to you. Hope you don't mind if I have a few further questions for you if I run into trouble. (I am squeamish when it comes to running an unpatched instance of MSDE.)
Regards,
Matt
