Hi all, I know this has most likely been asked before, but I cannot find much in the forum relating to this.
Is there any way of recovering passwords from sql server 2000.
We currently have a third party reporting application which uses sql 2000 and a uses particular user, but no one knows the password for this user because it was set-up some time ago.
Cheers

You can try using some scripts from this article http://www.sqlservercentral.com/columnists/jgama/sqlserverpasswordauditing.asp
or download NSSQLCRACK from http://www.nextgenss.com/products/database-security/ngs-sqlcrack.php. But be aware that if your password is more than 6 characters long it might take too long to crack it and it can stress your system a lot.
Personally I would just change the password

One item to ber aware of about NGS SQL Crack. It creates some entries in your registry that can never be removed (or at least a Domani Admin could not!). I discovered this when evaluating the product. Let it expire and it happens. Numerous mails to the vendor on how to perform the needed registry cleanup went unanswered for 60 days then I gave up and we reimaged the server ! Granted it was a development box but that is not the point. We needed to know if a product can be uninstalled cleanly before production implementation and NGS SQL Crack is not in this category due to this very 'special' feature. This 'special' feature aside the product is decent.
