password policy

  • If the password policy is enabled for the logins.Does the sql server prompt to change the password before it expires?

  • Nope. Windows will, SQL Server won't.

  • Does the SQL SERVER password policy inherited from the windows or is it possible to setup own password policy for the sql logins ?

  • Enabling password policy in SQL Server, unless I'm badly mistaken, makes SQL Server use the policies from Active Directory (Windows security).

  • Is there a way to configure policy for a sql login without using the windows policy ?

  • I guess it depends on what you want to do. Are you just looking for making the password expire after a certain amount of time, or for password complexity, or something else?
