Our 3rd party ERP Software uses SQL Server's sp_password to save passwords. (I ran a trace).
One user was able to change his password without error, but, when attempting to login gets the 18456 error.
I have been testing the password - carefully typing it in and get the error.

Crap! I just discovered the problem.
Was testing (again), entering all but the last character. When I was typing the confirming entry my brain, having typed it so many times was counting the number of characters and that was 8. The app has a limit of 8 characters, however, there is no error message when more than 8, Alpine128, is entered.
