PASS 2006 anyone?

  • Any one here attending (or thinking of) the PASS 2006 conference in Seattle in NOV?

  • I wish I could, but unfortunately, since my primary duty is Directory Services administration, I can't justify it to my management. Maybe they'll do a virtual PASS like with TechEd this year.

  • Brian, here are some ideas for PASS attendance justification

    1. Active Directory is a Jet-based database.

    2. ADSI which is Active Directory Service Interfaces has drivers that can be used to create linked servers to your directory. So you do need to know how to write queries from SQL Server

    3. You just really need to know how exactly "them, developers" and "them, database developers" 😉 will corrupt your Directory Services databases.

  • Nope, those don't work. Already tried them, especially the AD and Exchange are both Jet-based databases (at the time Exchange was on 5.5). We should have a few from my organization go, at least, I hope we do.

  • Be sure they stop by and say "hi"!

  • PASS or training ... hmmm ... training !

  • You'll get more out of PASS than any MOC course. By a long shot. Same thing was true of TechEd a couple of weeks back. I got more out of TechEd than any 3 MOC courses.

  • hmmm ... pass versus 1-2 training courses ... add in travel and lodging ... hmmm another 2-3 training courses ... I'm lucky to get 1 course budgeted (maybe another due to unplanned projects) but enough cash to cover travel, hotel, meals and PASS - it'll never happen. We're a non-profit county hospital. However it would be nice ...

  • Start a local PASS chapter... I believe one registration is free. I'm trying to start one in Columbia, SC, not for that reason, but it is a nice perk for the chapter to ensure 1 person who can't normally go will at least get the conference registration taken care of. You know, with SSC having that facility, perhaps there could be a virtual conference... not PASS, but still helpful.

  • Since I work in western Washington, it's hard to pass up the opportunity.  Our management isn't big on sending us out of state for training anymore, but it's a pretty easy sell for us to get registered for PASS in Seattle.

  • Wanted to bring this thread up. My company is sending me up there

Steve are you gonna be there?

    Anyone else showing up?

  • Steve, Andy, and Brian are attending.

Sign up with the "SSC" source code and come to our Tuesday night party!

  • Sign up as in sign up for the SQLServerCentral party? Do you have more details of it? I might be flying in on tuesday. Dont know my travel plans yet.

I have already registered for the conference, though.

  • Once you have registered, it is too late to add the SSC code.  I emailed pass2006@badgeguys.com and was told so when I explained that I had intended to use the code but our administrative assistant filled out the actual registration and didn't include it.

Does that mean I cannot attend the SSC party?  Am I on the outside looking in?

  • Exactly the same thing happened here. Our administrative assistant filled out the forms too. Well we will knock on their door and see if they let us in. If not there's not much we can do.
