Hi,
I want to remove partitioning from a database

I want to change the partition function to this format
CREATE PARTITION FUNCTION [PPF](int) AS RANGE LEFT FOR VALUES ( 50)
GO
i want to remove the below file group from the partition scheme
[FG_1], [FG_2], [FG_3], [FG_4], [FG_5], [FG_6], [FG_7], [FG_8], [FG_9], [FG_10], [FG_11], [FG_12], [FG_13], [FG_14], [FG_15], [FG_16], [FG_17], [FG_18], [FG_19], [FG_20], [FG_21], [FG_22], [FG_23], [FG_24], [FG_25], [FG_26], [FG_27], [FG_28], [FG_29], [FG_30], [FG_31], [FG_32], [FG_33], [FG_34], [FG_35], [FG_36], [FG_37], [FG_38], [FG_39], [FG_40], [FG_41], [FG_42], [FG_43], [FG_44], [FG_45], [FG_46], [FG_47], [FG_48], [FG_49]
when i remove the above mentioned file groups how is that going to affect the data in those file groups.
if i use ALTER PARTITION FUNCTION PPF()
MERGE RANGE ()
i can remove the partitions and partition schemes .What will happen to my data in the older file groups. I thing before removing i have to move the data from my old file groups to the new file groups. am i correct.
Can you please help me.

you can to merge all partitions or to do switch to another partitioned table with correct design (function and scheme).
see the follow link about partitions http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191174(v=SQL.105).aspx

i had used alter partition function and using merge range and a loop which will remove the filegroups.
That trick had worked

yes, that's right!! or you can to create table with correct structure to partitioning and insert the data.
