Hi,
I am investigating using partitions for archival purposes on an existing large table.
All the examples I am seeing create a new table specifying the partition. Can I ALTER a table to specify the partition?
Or is there another way to handle flexible archiving where users may want to change from querying 2006 and 2007 data only to querying 2003 to 2007?
Thanks.

Check out the "Data partitioning in SQL Server 2005" articles by "the MAK". One of them cover partitioning an existing table.
Alternately check the TSQL "DROP INDEX" command "WITH MOVE" option or "CREATE INDEX .. ON" to specify a partitioning scheme
