I've read that on a properly configured dedicated SQL server the pagefile doesn't need to be huge as SQL shouldn't use it. For example, we have a 1.5GB RAM SQL 7 server with a pagefile of 2.3GB. I've monitored the pagefile usage over the last couple of weeks and it's never been above 10%
As we're always looking for space, are there any dangers in reducing the pagefile to say 500MB?

So long as it is truely a dedicated SQL Server, I have never had any problem with eliminating it altogether, or reducing it to absolute minimum. Start running IIS, or third party monitoring software, etc...and yes, there are issues.
