Hi ,
i am going to use AWE for my new server having 8GB of RAM ,some articles say i need to add /3GB switch also with /PAE switch in boot.ini ,can anybody confirm that /3GB switch is also required with /PAE switch ?
My O/s is win2k3 ent.
SQL Sever is 2k with sp4
Thanks

No, the /3GB switch is not required, although often you would include it to maximize the memory you can use.

thanks Chris , do i need to reboot the box after running
sp_configure for AWE?

Can't remember for sure, but I see no reason to reboot the box after enabling AWE. SQL Server must be restarted of course. However, /PAE requires reboot of box, same with /3GB of course.

I noticed that enterprise edition was specified for the O/S but not for SQL Server. Was this just left out or is it only running standard edition?

Unless your are running SQL 2K enterprise /3GB and /PAE will do you absolutely no good since the 'standard' edition is limited to to 2 Gb <period>
