Oracle SQL Developer connection to SQL Server 2012 R2

    Hello, I have the following setup:

    SQL Server 2012 Express on Windows Server 2012. I'm trying to access SQL Server remotely from MacBook Pro, using Oracle SQL Developer. When I try connecting using tool I get the following message " Status : Failure -Test failed: Unknown server host name 'SQLExpress01'". Does anyone know how to configure tool? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Is there an ODBC driver installed and/or configured? I'm not familiar enough with Oracle's client software to know what connectivity it's natively capable of. Also, is the MacBook capable of using the necessary network protocols? I know NOTHING about Apple's computers, so I'm just trying to tick off a possible list of potential sources of grief.
