Hi Everyone,
We have a linked server setup to connect to one of our Oracle 8i databases. The linked server works fine most of the time but occasionally we get the following error when trying to use it:
Step Error Description:Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "xxx". (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (80040e14): OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "xxx" returned message "Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.
If we restart SQL Server the linked server starts working again. Has anyone else come across this sort of behavior using a linked server pointing towards Oracle? Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

After you bounce SQL Server link works fine for some time then it hits again; is that a fair statement?
If Yes... something is getting corrupted over time, memory leak perhaps?
