Hello!
I'm trying to get the ODAC tools installed in two different types of environments. I managed it on our initial development environment, but now I'm having trouble getting it to install on a new development environment.
We are using SSIS to manage the data loads - Linked Servers are not an option in this system.
Environment 1: Development
I need the full tools for connecting to the latest version of Oracle so we can build the SSIS Packages in Visual Studio.
We installed from ODTwithODAC122011.zip on our internal environment, but when we try the same installer on an AWS version of the development machine, it complains that Visual Studio 2017 isn't installed (it is!). From what I've read, this set of tools is the right set for what we're trying to do.
Environment 2: Test / Live
We only need the run time stuff here - so that we can run SSIS Packages from SQL Agent.
We should be able to use the same installer as for development, but only select the right options.
Is there a dummies guide to which option within which installer is required for which environment?
We're running SQL Server 2017. The Test / Live SSIS Packages will be run on AWS EC2 machines with the requisite Integration Services bits and pieces. The target database will be an RDS database, but this isn't necessarily important as we have SQL Server on the EC2 box managing the incoming data and then pushing it through onto RDS as the last step in the job.
Thanks very much!
Ben
