Hi
Quick overview:
Growign at 1/2 - 1 GB per day. Growth factor = 500MB. Takes around 7 - 10 seconds to perform growth. So twice a day everything grinds to a halt for 10 seconds. Question is, would I be likely to see an increase in performance overall by dropping this to say 20MB, or would it be better to up it to say 5GB?
Any input or ideas would be welcome

I would set it to the size of the disk (assuming you don't use the disk for anything else) and then leave it. Make sure you grow the file out of hours or everything will stop for a few minutes.
The only reason I can think of not to do this is if you think you might have to restore from a backup of the database on a server with smaller disks.

Thanks John, an interesting idea. I am almost tempted to go a step further and use a raw partition. However its all complicated due to the 2 log shipped databases we use for reporting...
