Greetings
Some pointers would help me.
Im in a very heterogeneous enviroment and we are wanting to put in an optic fibre link from SQL Server to Oracle. This will be a new partition using Data Centre 2003 with SQL Server 2000 64 bit.(getting ready for Yukon) The server is a Unisys E7000. I wan't to use the .net provider for Oracle for a linked server to Oracle. Has any one done somthing similar as im faced with the question "How do I tell sql to use the direct link in an openquery?" This configuration is not part of my responsibility but I need to know more or less as I need to start the design of the Database.
Any help would be appreciated.
Andy.

I'm not sure how you would point a query down a network path. maybe setup an alias in DNS for the oracle server and setup a linked server on that ip or alias?

Hi
Thanks for u'r feedback. We have also come up with this as a possible solution and we are going to test the feasibility.

I will let you know what the outcome is. The hardware has been ordered and we will test on the new partition. I was on a ado.net training course last nite and discussed the issue with some peers and we all agreed that an alias DNS is the way to go. The network cards would also be configured in a special ip range and the alias DNS would be in this range.
If it aint broke don't fix it!
