Vacancies are posted very rarely in this forum.
Just wondering if it means that there are very few opportunities for SQL Server DBAs.? Or People are just reluctent to post in this forum..?

My take is that SSC is just not a popular place to post jobs or to look for jobs. This forum is used more for getting help on putting together a resume or preparing for an interview.
Opportunities are going to vary based on where you are located. I can see things looking like they are picking up in my area (central FL).

Any kind of job is scarce right now. If you log onto "Michigan Works" and take a look, there are more than 1.2 million resumes available for a bit over 20 thousand jobs. It's the same way across the country.

I just made it through the last of the sub-prime melt down in Southern California. At our peak, we had 9 DBA's on staff, 4 focused on production, and 5 focused on development. None of them had much difficulty in finding another opportunity and most of them did relatively quickly. I can't say the same for other folks who were tied to the industry and not to the technology behind the industry. I've also had the opportunity to interview dozens and dozens of SQL Server DBA's and can tell you that really good ones are hard to find and the ones that are seem to have recruiters contacting them regularly. Just my 2 cents....

Depends on where you live, even where I am, there are weeks with nothing then you see loads of opportunities advertised. ones that are advertised by agencies tend to go very quick and might not even be advertised if they can use people already known and registered with them.
Getting known helps a lot, if people know you and know you are looking it helps a lot.
