I have a iSCSI tape volume mounted and when I try to backup a database from mssql 2008 sp2 to Tape0
I receive the following error : "Operation on device '\\.\Tape0' exceeded retry count."
The same configuration and hardware setup in mssql 2005 is working.
I have installed the latest driver for iSCSI adapter.
Please help.

I love hardware issues. Not really!
Here are some questions that I have for you.
1 - Are you backing up directly to tape?
2 - Is your OS up to date with service packs.
3 - Is SQL Server up to date with service packs.
Here is a thread that I found out on the web.
Someone else was having the same issue. Seemed to be driver related.
Backup up to disk on a NAS and then swiping to tape using the vendor software is the recommended way to go.
I hope this helped.
Sincerely
John

Yes to all 3 questions.
The solution of backing up first to disk and then from disk to tape is ok but then the next problem appears. In windows 2008 there's no ntbackup so the only thing that remains is third party backup to tape software. But this solution is not the way to go for me.
The workaround I found is backing up to a network share located on a 2003 server and then ntbackup directly to tape from the 2003 box.
Since I have an old windows server 2003 box that does almost nothing ... job done.
Thank you.
