Operating system error 112(There is not enough space on the disk)

  • Hi dear friends,

Weekly i m monitoring on my sql server 2005. Today i have found a error in my sql server error log file,

    Error: 18210

'BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'F:\MSSQL Backup\Default Instance\mydb\mydb_backup_200910051356.bak'. Operating system error 112(There is not enough space on the disk.).’

I checked the drive space but there is lot of space available on my F: drive the total size is suppose 20GB so there is near about 12gb is free space. still i m getting this error.

Can anybody tell me the reason of this.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    M.I.

You havent mentioned when this error occurred, could there be a overnight job that took all the space and then released it when finished that clashed with this backup job. how big is your backup normally for this database.

If I am reading that right, that is 4.3 GB in size and you are saying that you have 12 gb free on that drive and you are still having that message appear still, or did that error only appear once.
