We're in a mixed foxpro/sql server environment for a couple of years until foxpro is retired. The openquery/linked server approach has its uses to access the foxpro data from sql server. However, I can't get it to work anywhere except directly on the sql server box. Anyone solved this?
We find ourselves using tsql, ssis, openquery, foxpro remote views and a foxpro sql access technology called cursor adaptor to get our work done -- makes life interesting.

Are you using the IP address to do this?
I had a problem a while back trying to connect to a Sybase from SQL, it would work on the server box, but not on my pc. Solved it by using the IP instead of the namepipe.

I changed the path in the linked server to use the ip address
\\10.0.0.55\foxpro\pts.dbc Still getting vfpoledb for linked server..returned message invalid path or file name Cannot initialize the data source object of the ole db provider vfpoledb The Product Name field in the linked server is "made up" -- OleDB for Foxpro, not sure that matters. data source is the path above and location/catalog left blank
