Opening .sql file getting errors or opening in Notepad with odd characters

  Hello All,

  I am getting some odd behavior with some of my saved .sql files. Some open just fine on a double click but most are giving me a error

  "There is no editor for C:\Users\Thomas\Desktop\myfile.sql. Make sure the application for the file type(.sql) is installed."

  When I open in Notepad I just get a bunch of Chinese looking characters. I am at a loss.

  Any help or insight is appreciated.

  We have this from time to time and its due to the file save format being in Unicode rather than ANSI or vice versa.

  MCITP SQL 2005, MCSA SQL 2012
