I'm looking for feedback from those who have had a very good experience with online training that featured hands on labs and video conference with a live instructor. I have a specific need to get into topics covered by MOC 6234, with a heavy emphasis on the SSAS portion.
I attempted this with a vendor yesterday, and it was a disaster. The instructor was completely unprepared. The format was very good, but that was about it.
If you have recommendations you can share, please let me know.
Thank you for your help.

An unprepared instructor can be a disaster regardless of whether the class is online or in a traditional classrom. To gaurd against that I'd go with a vendor who has an established history of providing quality classroom training. That way you're likely to get a good instructor.
I did an online class in SSRS last year. They used GoToMeeting and Microsoft Communitcator to provide online students control of computers in the classroom that the instructor could then look at to answer questions. I actually preferred entering questions into a chat rather than interrupt the flow by verbally asking a questions.
My only complaint was that the audio was done with a speakerphone rather than with a headset worn by the instructor. He sounded like he was talking inside an empty warehouse. Probably 25 percent of the mental energy expended was just focusing on what he was saying through the echo. Another issue was a "zoom" feature used in the powerpoint presentations. Network latency made the zooms jumpy and difficult to look at.
I made both of these comments in the evaluation. Hopefully these issues will be addressed. Otherwise I found it very convenient to train from home rather than having to travel. I would also recommend it for software it is practical to install and play with at home (SQLExpress or evaluation versions of full MSSQL).
