The secondary server is going to be located in the same room. We don't have an away data center.

I sure will but it is kind of difficult to upgrade around here. It might take a year or more before we do that. We still haven't upgraded to 2008, although I have a test PC server. But I think we will end up going for 2011 next year.

NOTE: SQL 2011 (aka Denali) will require ENTERPRISE EDITION WINDOWS SERVER AND ENTERPRISE EDITION SQL SERVER to do clustering/mirroring!!! Pretty much sucks in my book and I and others are screaming to Microsoft about that EXPENSIVE restriction.

That will make it impossible for us to use that new feature because I know that I would not be able to get them to upgrade to Enterprise. We will upgrade to 2011 but not Enterprise.

It could be worse. They could require that you use Data Center Edition Windows Server and Data Center Edition SQL Server to do it. I like the new "AlwaysOn" branding they are giving it. I guess its just a way to reduce support costs by keeping the price high for early adoptors.
