I am attempting to create a linked server to an Excel spreadsheet on a new 64-bit SQL Server2005 but I get the following error:
Msg 7403, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" has not been registered.
I create linked servers using the Jet 4.0 OLE DB provider on other servers (all 32 bit, both 2000 and 2005) without problem and never had to "register" the Jet provider before.
Does anyone know how to handle this problem?

I'm not sure but I think I have the same problem using SQL Server 2005 64-bit. I couldn't use ODBC against database server and only works when I use OLE-DB connection string. Hope this help.

Thanks for the effort, but, so far, nothing helps. My understanding is that MS has not ported the Jet and ODBC providers to the 64-bit environment and that's that. I guess there is not anything we can do but complain.
