Old Database backups are not deleting using the retention period in Maintainenance task.

    Hi!

    I have set up a maintainence plan in SQL Server 2008, which backs up all the databases and is suppose to delete databases older than 3 days. The backup is working but the delete portion of the job isn't. I have checked the server and the job settings and all of them have a 3 days retention period.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Setting the retention period for the backup does not remove old backups. To actually remove old backup files you need to add the maintenance cleanup task and configure it correctly.
